My Imagination Has Never Learned to Behave

Michelle Avatar

I’m Michelle Hoffmann, a writer, artist, and music creator who turns the beauty, absurdity, and quiet mysteries I see in everyday life into stories, images, and songs. I’m drawn to the things that make me pause: an unexpected kindness, a peculiar shadow, a conversation that stays with me long after it ends. Sometimes I find something worth celebrating. Other times, I find something worth questioning—and occasionally, something that deserves its own song.

Creativity gives me a way to explore all of it. Through writing, I can follow a thought beyond the point where ordinary conversation leaves it. Through art and photography, I can show what caught my attention and invite someone else to look a little closer. Music brings another dimension, giving words a rhythm, a mood, and sometimes enough attitude to get up and dance.

My work moves between subjects because my curiosity does, too. There is room here for mystery, humor, imagination, and the less comfortable parts of being human. I’m interested in the strength we discover after disappointment, the freedom of becoming more ourselves, and the strange pleasure of being underestimated. I also believe that a little mischief can improve an otherwise perfectly respectable day.

This website brings the different parts of my creative life together. You’ll find writing, artwork, and glimpses of the ideas taking shape along the way. Some begin with something I’ve noticed; others arrive uninvited and make themselves comfortable until I do something with them. I’ve learned to leave a little room for both.

I hope something here makes you feel understood, sparks your curiosity, or helps you notice something you might otherwise have walked past. Have a look around and see what catches your attention. There’s always another story waiting to be told, and I’m rarely content to leave it alone for long.
