My Resting Place
My Resting Place
I have been thinking a lot about my mortality lately and have come to a decision about what should be done with my body once I am finished with it and have departed for other realms. I realize that this is usually a private matter, but the reason that I am writing about this publicly, is because I believe that the decision I have come to may be something that others might want to consider. (?)
The Earth is in trouble, and if we don’t start doing something to help, the human species (as well as all of the other species that are alive – except maybe the cockroach) will cease to exist. None of us want that now, do we? It’s time for us to put aside our petty differences and come to the realization that WE ARE ALL HUMAN! ALL OF US are inhabitants of this blue-green marble, and we ALL need to do our part to sustain it!
The Final Ceremony
The ceremony should be a simple one – one that celebrates my life and the beauty of nature. My body should be laid into a wooden or carboard box, a coffin per se, – one that will decompose along with my body over time. Once this “coffin” has been lowered into the ground, I would like an oak sapling to be planted above it, and a plaque bearing my name and the dates of my birth and death placed at the base of the tree.
I would like the people at the ceremony to be participants in the planting of the tree, reading poetry, singing songs, dancing, telling stories, i.e… doing whatever makes them happy. I do not want mourners. My favorite music should be played. This includes 80s music, soft rock, classical, even pre-80s country! I want this to be a party to remember!
The location of my burial site can be determined by my loved ones. I would prefer somewhere in perhaps, Colorado :).
