What Color Was The Horse?

What color was the horse? What Color Was The Horse?

One night, I was watching an episode of CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) on TV. In that episode, one of the investigators, Detective Jim Brass, told a really cool story that really made me think and I just wanted to share it with you.

Now, I am not very good at retelling stories, I never get all of the details right, so this version will not be as good as his was… but here goes:

There once was an accident involving a horse and car. There were people hurt, the cars were totaled and the horse was seriously hurt. One of the policemen on the scene decided that, because the horse was so badly injured, it needed to be put down. which he did.

The scene was eventually cleared, and life went back to normal. However, when asked, not one person who was at the scene could remember the color of the horse.

Notice the Details

Ok… so that was a watered down version… but I think I was still able to make my point. We all get so enamored with things, that we don’t take notice of details. This is true in every part of our lives… even marketing. Think about it.

When we first become involved in any program… MLM, Cash Gifting, Traffic Exchanges, Lead programs, social networking sites, etc… it doesn’t matter what kind, we are so hyped up, excited about it, that we don’t see the whole picture. It’s not until we look back a couple of weeks or months later, after we’ve lost tons of money, that we take notice of the small details, such as a compensation plan that caters only to those who get in early or spend the most money, that we realize that we fell for yet another sham.

I didn’t want to say ‘scam’ because not everything that causes you to lose money IS a scam. Sometimes, you can be involved in an absolutely legitimate company or program, but because you didn’t market it wholeheartedly, it didn’t work out for you.

How many times have you been involved in something, seen other people raking in the cash, but you just can’t seem to get it right? Did you pay attention to the details? Or did you just get excited because they said all the right words and pushed all the right buttons?

Think About The Details

So, the next time you feel that you’ve been taken for a ride by program, stop. Think about the details. Did you take notice? Did you really READ the fine print? Or did you just skim over it, taking notice of all of the times the word ‘cash’ or ‘income’ or ‘money’ came up, leaving you to believe that that was all there was to it?

Did you see where it said you need to sponsor 2 people? Could you understand what a binary system really meant? Did you understand when they said – we will put people under you? Usually that means that they will put people on your ‘company leg’. You still need to find those two people. It may not happen as fast as you imagined… if you don’t work it.

So, the next time you jump into the ‘next big thing’… take a moment and read the fine print. Pay attention to the details.

Take notice of the color of the horse.
