(And You Know… It Might Be Right)
By Michelle Hoffmann
The garden has opinions.
So do the crows, the frogs, the weeds, the moon, the tea leaves, and apparently the occasional suspicious mushroom.
My Garden Thinks I’m Funny (And You Know… It Might Be Right) is a playful collection of short poetry about gardening, cooking, nature, cats, kitchen witchery, and the small absurdities that make an ordinary day worth noticing.
Here, tomatoes gossip with bees. Radishes quietly mock your personal goals. Mint spreads like neighborhood gossip. A garden gnome survives one storm too many but stubbornly refuses assistance. A crow sits on the fence judging your life choices. Somewhere nearby, a witch has misplaced her wand and decided a wooden spoon will work just as well.
And somehow, amid all that nonsense, life keeps sneaking in.
These poems find humor and meaning in burnt toast, dirt beneath your fingernails, forgotten cups of tea, bread rising on the counter, weeds that refuse to take a hint, changing seasons, imperfect plans, and the stubborn little things that continue growing anyway.
There is a touch of magic here, but it isn’t the grand, dramatic sort. It’s the kind that lives in a steaming teapot, a handful of seeds, moonlight through a window, the smell of wet earth, a cat who may or may not know your secrets, and a kitchen that smells enough like cinnamon to convince you everything might turn out all right.
Warm, whimsical, slightly witchy, and occasionally ridiculous, My Garden Thinks I’m Funny is for gardeners, cooks, nature lovers, cat people, daydreamers, kitchen witches, and anyone who has ever tried to grow something only to discover that nature had plans of its own.
Because life is messy.
Gardens are messier.
And sometimes the best thing you can do is make a cup of tea and laugh about it.
