We like to imagine time as a straight line.

The past is behind us. The present is where we stand. The future waits somewhere ahead.

But the past has never really left.

Its wars and revolutions, loves and losses, mistakes and discoveries still echo through the world we inhabit today. And every decision we make in the present is already becoming part of a future someone else will one day call history.

The Echoes of Time by Michelle Hoffmann is a collection of original quatrain poetry exploring that endless conversation between yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Their monuments may crumble and their names may disappear, but the choices they made continue to leave fingerprints on the present.

Then the poems turn toward the world we are living in now.

Technology connects billions while loneliness persists. Humanity reaches toward the stars while wars continue below. Artists create amid upheaval. Young voices demand change. Environmental warnings grow louder. Wealth and opportunity remain unevenly divided, and the speed of modern life leaves little time to consider where all that motion is actually taking us.

Finally, the collection looks forward.

Cities rise beneath oceans. Humans travel among the planets. Artificial minds dream in streams of code. Books become living things. Machines take over familiar work. Medicine challenges aging itself, while technology reshapes art, relationships, justice, warfare, food, and even what it means to be human.

Some of these possibilities are beautiful.

Others are unsettling.

Most are probably a little of both.

And beneath every imagined advancement remains an older question: If we gain the power to change almost everything, will we also possess the wisdom to know what should remain unchanged?
