The Wanderer
A Collection of Poetry
By Michelle Hoffmann
Not every journey needs a destination.
Sometimes we wander because we are searching. Sometimes because we are curious. And sometimes because the world is simply too large, strange, beautiful, troubling, and fascinating to stay in one place for very long.
The Wanderer by Michelle Hoffmann is an eclectic collection of poetry that follows that impulse wherever it leads.
These poems travel through forests and cities, across oceans and beneath star-filled skies. They pause beside old oak trees, mist-covered lakes, autumn fields, moonlit rivers, and quiet gardens. Cats prowl beneath the moon, butterflies settle among flowers, crows watch from fences, and owls call secrets into the gathering dark.
But The Wanderer doesn’t remain in peaceful places.
The collection also turns toward the world humanity has created: environmental destruction, inequality, technology, consumerism, political division, democracy, justice, freedom, and the uncertainty of what comes next. There are questions about the direction we’re traveling as a society and whether we still have the courage to change course.
Then the journey turns inward.
There are shadows we carry, forgotten fears, fragments of ourselves lost to time, memories attached to seemingly insignificant objects, loneliness glowing from a phone screen, and the strange experience of searching for something without always knowing what that something is.
Yet this isn’t an entirely serious journey.
Cats create chaos. Witches make unfortunate mistakes. Ghosts throw parties. Limericks wander into unexpected places. Humor appears alongside melancholy because life rarely has the courtesy to remain in a single mood.
Throughout the collection, poetry itself changes shape. Brief haiku capture a passing image before it disappears, while longer poems linger over ideas about nature, humanity, memory, darkness, freedom, and hope. Rhyming verses and playful limericks sit comfortably beside introspective free verse.
There is no single road through The Wanderer.
And that is precisely the point.
At the heart of the collection is the idea that perhaps searching isn’t something we do only until we find an answer. Perhaps the searching itself changes us. We wander through landscapes, relationships, ideas, memories, and different versions of ourselves, gathering pieces along the way.
The Wanderer is for poetry lovers, nature lovers, dreamers, thinkers, cat people, stargazers, and anyone whose curiosity has ever carried them somewhere unexpected.

Stay awhile.
Then wander on.
You never know what you might find along the way.
