Twilight Dreams
Collection of Haiku, Quatrain, & Cinquain
By Michelle Hoffmann
There is a particular kind of quiet that belongs to twilight.
Day hasn’t entirely disappeared. Night hasn’t quite arrived. Shadows lengthen, colors soften, and for a little while the familiar world seems capable of keeping secrets.
Twilight Dreams by Michelle Hoffmann is a collection of haiku, quatrain, and cinquain poetry inspired by those quiet spaces—between daylight and darkness, movement and stillness, what we know and what we can only imagine.
These poems wander deeply into the natural world.
Pine trees whisper beneath winter skies. Moonlight traces silver across a pond. Rivers carve their patient paths through ancient stone. Fireflies become stars among the trees. Foxes slip through autumn leaves, wolves call beneath the moon, owls cry into darkness, and solitary birds rise into open skies.
The seasons turn throughout the collection, bringing cherry blossoms and morning dew, autumn leaves and winter frost, summer meadows and spring’s first promise of renewal.
Yet nature is never merely scenery.
A willow bending in a storm becomes a lesson in resilience. A river reminds us that time never stops moving. Falling leaves reveal something about letting go. A spiderweb holds both fragility and strength. Dawn becomes another chance to begin, while a candle burning against the darkness reminds us how much difference even a small light can make.
There are mysteries here, too.
Ancient castles stand guard beneath twilight skies. Forests seem to remember forgotten stories. Mountains hide themselves in mist. Ravens carry the feeling of old legends, and stars become distant guides for wandering minds. Again and again, the collection approaches the boundary between the world we can see and the one we sense may exist just beyond it.
Through haiku, quatrain, and cinquain, Twilight Dreams shifts naturally between brief moments of observation and poems that linger a little longer. Some capture a single image; others follow that image toward questions of freedom, hope, time, memory, beauty, and change.
This is a collection to read slowly.
Open it on a quiet evening. Read a poem before bed. Take it outside beneath the moon or keep it beside the chair where you drink your morning coffee.
There is no need to hurry.
Twilight never lasts very long.
Perhaps that’s what makes us stop and look.
Twilight Dreams is for poetry lovers, nature lovers, stargazers, dreamers, and anyone who has ever found something beautiful in the moment when the light begins to change.
